Definition: Microbiology
Explanation: Microbiology
can be defined as the study of microorganisms,
which are unicellular or cell-cluster
microscopic organisms, including nucleatic
eukaryotes such as fungi and protists,
and non-nucleatic prokaryotes such as
bacteria and certain algaes. Even though
there is great knowledge in the field
of microbiology, it has been discovered
that on average, the common estimate
of the current knowledge in the field
of microbiology suggests that a meagre
1% of all the microbes in any given
environment have in fact been studied.
As such, microbiology is really still
in its infacy in relation to other biological
disciplines such as zoology, botany
and entomology.
